DES-Testbed
The DES-Testbed (Distributed Embedded Systems) is a hybrid wireless testbed setup for long-term studies. It consists of a wireless mesh network (WMN) and a wireless sensor network (WSN). Both wireless nodes are assembled into one enclosure which we denote as DES-Node. Currently, the testbed consists of 70 wireless mesh routers equipped with three or more IEEE 802.11a/b/g network adapters and an equal number of wireless sensor nodes (MSB-A2).

CERTH has developed a wireless testbed called Network Implementation Testbed using Open Source platforms (NITOS). NITOS is a testbed offered by NITLab and consists of wireless nodes based on open source software. The testbed is designed to achieve reproducibility of experimentation, while also supporting evaluation of protocols and applications in real world settings.

NITOS consists of nodes based on commercial Wifi cards and Linux open source drivers. The control and management of the tesbed is done using the cOntrol and Management Framework (OMF) open-source software. NITOS testbed is deployed at the exterior of the University of Thessaly (UTH) campus building, as illustrated in the figure.

NITOS registered users can run their experiments real-time on the configurable wireless nodes. If you are interested in running experiments in NITOS, read here the instructions.
